The path winds through a beautiful forest of larch trees hence the name of Monte Lareit, larch woods. Leave your car in Pravasivo along the main Stelvio road, one kilometre before the Bagni Vecchi di Bormio, and take path S533. The path is characterised by short ups and downs and all along the way there are numerous other paths leading off back to the village or continuing towards other destinations.
read moreThe trail traverses Monte Reit and leads up to Casina Bassa, where dairy cattle are led up in spring to graze. From here continue on paths S511 then S531 until you reach the village of Teregua in Valfurva. You can return using public transport.European larch The tree grows high 3540 metres, and is very longlived and fast growing. The trunk is unique and almost always perfectly straight; the bark, fissured by numerous vertical cracks, is red inside. It has fine needles that fall in autumn.
