Alpe Schiazzera - Tirano
This itinerary starts from Rifugio Schiazzera on a panoramic terrace on middle Valtellina from where you can also catch a glimpse of the route named "La Tornantissima". The first stretch extending sideways on Sentiero Italia track is equally panoramic. The descent is quite long, fluent, gently sloping down and with no difficulty either.read more
Trails, dirt roads, mule-tracks and paved stretches often alternate up to the final part of the route passing through the terraced vineyards, which stretch away for kilometres on the Rhaetian mountainside towards lower Valtellina. The starting point is from the car park below Schiazzera at 2000 m (notice board with map and indications _ the whole route is indicated by red signposts with n. B201). The mountain bike has to be carried for the first ten minutes up to the mountain hut (2077 m), then you climb up on a trail by carrying again your MTB now and then until you get to Sentiero Italia at 2176 m (sign step 1). From here on you keep on climbing until you reach the top elevation of this itinerary at 2210 m always riding on a trail. The first descent to Sovo (1720 m _ sign step 2) runs on an easy trail crossing the wood. Then you take a dirt road, and further the mule-track on your left spreading out over many easy switchbacks. Then again another dirt road, and finally a paved one leading to Baruffini (sign step 3). The final hill down to Tirano is on mule-tracks and trails.
