The area around Tirano is a real treasure of tastes: apples in the bottom of the valley, terraced vineyards on the north side, numerous firms producing bresaola, wine cellars, fruit and vegetable co-operatives represent the best of agricultural and food production in Valtellina.

Tastes that can be found in pizzoccheri, the most famous dish of the local cuisine. This food had its origins in Teglio, an important cultural and artistic centre which has given its name to the whole valley. Tirano, the main town of this area, boasts a wide historical centre and the impressive church Basilica della Madonna and it is an important terminus for the Italian state railways as well as the departure station of the famous Bernina red train to St.Moritz. Aprica is the most known and recently renewed ski area in this part of the valley, while from Tirano to Grosio there are a lot of important villages and the interesting Parco delle Incisioni Rupestri.
